Sustainable development – our strategy

The global Veolia Environnement sustainable development strategy articulates our vision for sustainable development and our commitment to our stakeholders. The key pillars of this strategy are:

  • Anticipating and adapting – our development is based on our ability to establish relationships with future clients that demonstrates our competence in managing environmental services across water, waste, energy and transport.
  • Inventing sustainable solutions – we deliver support services essential to people's wellbeing and health, and more broadly to support their community's sustainable economic and social development.
  • Building the sustainable city – world trends indicate the major concepts of sustainable development are becoming increasingly important in urban and regional planning for today's expanding towns and cities. Our wide-ranging expertise across water cycle management, waste recovery and recycling, energy efficiency and transport gives a comprehensive understanding of the key challenges and the ability to provide sustainable solutions.
  • At the forefront of technology and innovation – innovation ensures we are best placed to provide our clients with the best possible solutions for the management of their environmental services.

Sustainable development charter

The global Veolia Environnement sustainable development strategy is supported by our sustainable development charter. This charter articulates the key commitments we have made and targets to be met by 2011. These commitments cover environmental protection, ethics, beliefs and responsibilities, managing risk, improving quality of service, safety, good governance, research and development, responsible procurement and supporting the local community.

In Australia and New Zealand, the charter is reflected in business-specific sustainable development strategies and policies, and in our business planning.
